Children’s hive

An Inspiration from the Beehive for the Education of KabyleChildren
The beehive is a priceless source of inspiration for the values of discipline, cleanliness, collaborative work and collective know-how that it embodies. Through this metaphor, we wish to transmit to Kabyle children these essential principles for their personal and collective development of the taste of honey. The bee, by its rigor and commitment, illustrates perfectly the power of well-organized work to produce honey. At the same time, it ensures that a healthy and orderly environment is maintained, thus ensuring an effective and harmonious collaboration, oriented towards productivity and prosperity. In the same way, children of Kabylia will be educated in this spirit, imbued with values of solidarity, effectiveness, individual and collective efficiency.

‘Children’s Hives’: Spaces for Discovery and Development

The structures called ‘Children’s Hives’ are not directly part of the compulsory school system, but their attendance is strongly recommended to promote the overall development of children from an early age. Their access is optional and is based on the parents’ choice. In these centers, children are not divided into age groups, thus promoting a rewarding intergenerational interaction. There is no imposed program; each child can freely choose his activities, under the benevolent supervision of educators trained in early childhood education. These establishments welcome children from the age of 3 months to 4 years. Babies receive specific attention, while older children evolve in mixed groups, playing and learning together.

A Flexible and Stimulating Environment

Children’s Hives operate throughout the year, without mandatory holidays, offering flexibility adapted to the needs of families. Schedules, calendars and activities may vary from one institution to another, depending on the preferences of parents and supervisors. These centers not only offer moments of free play; they also offer a rich variety of activities, carefully designed to instill in children core values such as socialization, respect, discipline, solidarity, motivation to learn, and progressive development of the logical mind. Regular outings (parks, botanical gardens, forests, public places) are organized to allow children to discover fauna, flora and other natural environments. In addition, walks in the village or neighborhood, visits to the headquarters of Tajemâat (ⵝⴰⵊⴻⵎⴰⵄⵝ) and other community places aiming to anchor children in their social and family environment. These activities introduce them to associative life, to greet neighbors, to discover community interactions, and to cultivate a spirit of communication and belonging to their society.

A Universal Right for Every Child

Each child, from the age of three months until his entry into the compulsory school system at the age of 5, is entitled to a place in a children’s hive in his locality or nearby. These structures aim to offer a stimulating framework for their overall development, prepare them for their future schooling, and promote their socialization from an early age. Children with disabilities also benefit from specialized programs, adapted to their needs, under the supervision of qualified educators. This ensures inclusion and equity, giving each child the means to thrive at their own pace.

Rigorous and Shared Management

Children’s Hives can be created and managed by public or private actors, subject to strict accreditation. Municipalities (Tighiwanin) play a central role in their implementation. Parents’ associations, companies and other private actors can also contribute, but all these structures remain subject to rigorous control by the public authorities. This control is intended to protect children from any risk of ideological indoctrination or inappropriate practices. Children’s Hives funding is based on a combination of sources: parental contributions, federal and municipal support, charitable and foundation donations. Families in financial difficulty or parents with physical or moral disabilities are exempt from any contribution. Their children are taken care of free of charge thanks to solidarity funds managed directly by the institutions concerned.

A Springboard for a Promising Future

The fundamental role of Children’s Hives is to provide the younger generations the necessary means for their intellectual, emotional and social development. They prepare children to enter the education system with confidence, curiosity and a solid foundation of values and skills. These structures embody an ambitious and inclusive vision for the future of children in Kabylia, placing them at heart of an education system that respects their unique potential and aspirations.
